Dr. Crosby is a valuable figure in the animal community. I’m thankful for his teachings and eager to continue to learn more from him. Spending time with the Crosbys showed me the importance of a college education. Despite its challenges, I wouldn’t trade my college experience.
If more people were like Dr. Crosby, the dog industry could communicate more effectively and we would be able to save more lives.

Lesson One
You own two things in life: your name and your time.
Get an education and know what you’re talking about because your name matters. Spend time with those who value you and enjoy life. Dr. Jim Crosby has a lot of valuable information and resources. I believe everyone in the dog industry could benefit from taking his course or attending one of his events. Time spent listening to him talk about dog behavior is priceless and he is a treasure trove of information.
Lesson Two
Unlocking the art of canine behavior & every skill is important
First, you figure out what’s worth stealing, then you move on to the next thing. That’s about all there is to it. When you look at the world this way, you stop worrying about what’s “good” and what’s “bad”—there’s only stuff worth stealing, and stuff that’s not worth stealing. – Austin Kleon
Dr. Crosby has taught me any skill can be fine-tuned into a creative skill. One of his recommendations in 2021 was the book “Steal Like An Artist” by Austin Kleon. It inspired me to live my life creatively after reading this book. In his master’s thesis and dissertation, Dr. Crosby shares some invaluable resources. By pulling from his experiences and education in a creative way, he has built meaningful work to better the animal industry.
Lesson Three
Dog bites are not trophies
Dr. Crosby has dealt with over 50 dogs that were part of human deaths, and his thesis is extraordinarily informative for the animal community. If anyone deserves a bad ass title related to dogs in the dog industry, it’s Dr. Crosby. Besides saving thousands of dogs, he has made education a central part of his work. Despite his experience and formal education, Dr. Crosby still wears protective Kevlar when evaluating dogs that may nip. Why? Dog bites are dangerous to both humans and dogs. When I have gotten a dog bite, I make sure I learn to avoid it in the future. Which precautions did I overlook and what did I misunderstand? If I continue to value safety, then I can continue working with these misunderstood dogs for the rest of my career.
Be more like Dr. Jim Crosby
Dr. Crosby embodies compassion and integrity, which are my guiding principles. His guidance helped me align my values and serve my community with tools. I believe I can pursue a career path with integrity and compassion by learning from Dr. Crosby’s experiences. Meeting him ignited my passion for learning about the dog community. I’ll work on meaningful projects, speak with intelligence and use my time wisely. Safety is important, and I’ll use my creativity to improve my skills. Dr. Crosby’s teachings inspired me to pursue my dream life.
Try to be like Dr. Crosby. Live creatively and speak with a purpose. Educate yourself and take safety seriously.
